Himalaya Harbinger, Rudrapur Bureau.
After a decade-long pursuit, the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) and Udham Singh Nagar Police successfully nabbed Arvind Yadav, a fugitive with a Rs 50,000 bounty, in Sheikhpura of Bihar. Yadav, accused of a brutal murder in 2014, had evaded authorities for years by frequently changing locations and identities across multiple states.
The chilling crime dates back to August 9 in 2014, when Yadav allegedly strangled a woman in Sanjay Nagar Khera colony of the city, and hid her body inside a plastic tank. The victim’s mother reported the murder, and an investigation was launched. Despite numerous police efforts, Yadav managed to disappear, leading the Rudrapur police to confiscate his property, declare him a fugitive in 2017, and offer a cash reward. Since then, Yadav was believed to be moving between Bihar, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Mumbai, taking on aliases, including “Gaurav,” to evade arrest.
STF Inspector MP Singh said “Yadav was adept at dodging us, frequently changing his mobile numbers and locations. Recently, our intelligence pinpointed his movements in Sheikhpura, Bihar. A team was immediately deployed to capture him. On November 10, a coordinated operation in Sheikhpura’s Ariyari area led to Yadav’s arrest. He was brought back to Rudrapur on a transit remand”.
Rudrapur SHO Manoj Raturi recounted the details of the heinous crime and Yadav’s years of evasion: “The accused brutally killed a woman and concealed her body. Since then, he has been shifting between states and only visiting his home briefly under aliases to avoid detection.”
The arrest marks a significant victory for the police, concluding a decade-long chase for a fugitive who constantly evaded justice. Arvind Yadav now faces charges under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and has been remanded to custody.
