In a progressive move aimed at rehabilitating inmates, Minda Corporation Limited, an industrial unit in Sitarganj of district Udham SIngh Nagar, is set to establish a manufacturing plant inside the Central Jail and Sampurnanand Camp in Sitarganj. The plant, with a capacity of 130 workers, will engage prisoners in the production of wire harnesses for automobiles.
On Thursday, Senior Jail Superintendent Anurag Malik, along with Gaurav Kumar, the maintenance head of Minda Corporation Limited, performed the ceremonial land breaking and bhumi poojan ceremony to mark the plant’s inauguration. The initiative will employ both life convicts and undertrial prisoners, offering them technical skills in wire harness production—a critical component used to transmit electrical signals in vehicles.
“This initiative aims to change society’s perception of prisoners by highlighting their capabilities,” said Anurag Malik. “We want to ensure that, upon release, prisoners can integrate into society with a positive mindset and gain employment.”
Kumar said, “By connecting prisoners with vocational training, the initiative seeks to ease their reintegration into society, helping reduce recidivism and promoting a positive outlook towards them in the community. The plant, currently under construction, is expected to start operations soon, giving prisoners an opportunity to contribute to the workforce and build a better future”.
