Kathmandu, July 24: A tragic incident occurred at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Wednesday when a Saurya Airlines aircraft carrying nineteen passengers crashed during takeoff. The aircraft, which was en route to Pokhara, skidded off the runway and caught fire. According to Gyanendra Bhul, Information Officer at the airport, only the airline’s technical staff were on board at the time of the accident. The crash resulted in the recovery of at least 18 bodies, as reported by news agency Reuters.
This incident bears a somber resemblance to a similar tragedy last year when a Yeti Airlines plane crashed in Pokhara, resulting in the loss of all 68 passengers. The current accident highlights ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the region. Further details regarding the causes of the Saurya Airlines crash are still awaited as authorities continue their investigation.
