(Bageshwar): A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday evening when a car carrying four friends, who had gone to Badiyakot to celebrate the New Year, fell into the Pindar River. The accident claimed the lives of three individuals, while one woman remains missing. The incident happened near the remote village of Tik in the Kapkot area.
According to preliminary reports, the Alto car (registration number UK 02 TA 2076) was returning from Badiyakot towards Sorag around 5:30 PM when the driver lost control, and the vehicle plunged into the river. Disaster Management Officer Shikha Suyal confirmed the details, stating that the rugged terrain and remote location delayed the flow of information and hindered rescue operations.
The identified victims so far are Sundar Singh Aithani (33) and Munna Shahi (31). The woman whose body has been found is either Neelam (28) or Poonam Pandey (26); it is not yet clear, and efforts to find her are ongoing.A rescue team comprising police, SDRF personnel, and Kapkot Tehsil administration staff is on-site, equipped with satellite phones due to poor connectivity in the region.
“Two male bodies have been identified, but the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be confirmed. The search for the missing woman is still underway,” said a rescue official.
The team continues its operation under challenging conditions. Further updates will be provided once the rescue team concludes its efforts.
