Pant varsity and IARI ink pact to revolutionize seed production and agricultural research

Aimed to bolster agricultural research and innovation, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. The agreement seeks to enhance cooperation in seed production, technological advancement, and academic collaboration.

 

The MoU was signed by Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of Pantnagar University, and Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director and Vice-Chancellor of IARI. The ceremony witnessed the presence of IARI Joint Director of Research Vishwanath Chunnuswamy, Head of Genetics Gopal Krishnan, Seed Production In-Charge Gyanendra Singh, University Director of Research AS Nain, Joint Director of the Seed Production Center AS Jeena, Registrar, and several Deans and Directors.

 

“This collaboration will strengthen national agricultural progress. IARI’s export of Basmati rice worth Rs 52,000 crore stands as a shining example,” said Chauhan, emphasizing the need for quality seed production, especially maize for ethanol.

 

Rao said, “Self-reliance in seed development is key to a developed India. Joint crop varieties by IARI and Pantnagar will address knowledge gaps and post-harvest losses.”
