The Fifth State Olympic Games 2024 concluded at the Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium in Udham Singh Nagar district headquarters, Rudrapur, with Divisional Commissioner Kumaon, Deepak Rawat, as the chief guest. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Rawat said that India and Uttarakhand are experiencing a “golden age of sports” with the government offering substantial support to athletes, including benefits in government service.
“Players should stay confident, set their goals with dedication, and take advantage of the facilities provided by the government,” Rawat said, emphasizing programs like the Mukhyamantri Udiyaman Khiladi scheme, which promotes sports at various levels.
State Olympic Association President Manish Negi and General Secretary DK Singh expressed gratitude to the Divisional Commissioner, district administration, coaches, and referees for the successful organization of the event, which saw participation from 6,000 athletes across 33 sports. Of these, 22 events were held in Udham Singh Nagar alone.
During the event, medals were awarded to the winning players and teams. As a special honor, Parth from Haridwar, who secured five gold medals in the boys’ category, was presented with an electric motorbike. Similarly, Sonia from Tehri Garhwal, who won four golds in the girls’ category, received an electric scooter.
The Commissioner extended his best wishes to the athletes for the upcoming 38th National Games and assured full support to the State Olympic Association.
