The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka Police has issued a notice to former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, asking him to appear for questioning in connection with a Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case.
The case, filed earlier this year, alleges that Yediyurappa sexually assaulted a minor. The complaint was lodged by the girl’s mother, who claimed the incident occurred on February 2 when they visited the senior BJP leader to seek assistance in a cheating case.
Yediyurappa has been charged under the Pocso Act and Section 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for sexual harassment.
Yediyurappa, through his lawyers, has requested a week’s extension to appear before the CID, citing his current presence in Delhi. This will be his fourth appearance for questioning, as he has already been interrogated three times by the investigative team.
The case was originally registered at the Sadashivanagar police station but was later transferred to the CID for further investigation. Yediyurappa has denied the allegations, calling them ‘baseless’.
Yediyurappa, 81, served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka multiple times, between 2008 and 2011, briefly in May 2018, and again from July 2019 to 2021. His resignation in 2021 came after weeks of speculation and uncertainty
