Rudrapur: Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s Foundation,YouWeCan, is set to launch a breast cancer awareness campaign in the district, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pandit Ram Sumer Government Medical College in August. This initiative will be the foundation’s first in Uttarakhand, having previously operated in Goa and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Kedar Singh Shahi, Principal of the medical college, highlighted the rising incidence of breast cancer among women. “Many women neglect treatment due to lack of information or financial constraints, which often leads to serious consequences,” he said. Dr. Shahi noted that the medical college receives four to five new breast cancer cases each month, prompting the need for a comprehensive action plan.

“The foundation, in partnership with the health department, will conduct door-to-door screenings in slums, rural areas, and other underserved communities to identify affected women. Those diagnosed will receive free treatment at government hospitals. The foundation’s team will employ modern equipment for testing and will provide training to health department personnel. The MoU with the Yuvraj Singh Foundation will last one year, during which the campaign aims to screen and assist as many women as possible”, Dr Shahi further said.
