Following a fire incident in the radiology unit store of Uttarakhand’s Government Medical College in Dehradun fifteen days ago, the state’s health authorities have taken strict measures to ensure compliance with fire safety norms. As a result, 27 hospitals operating under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana across the state have been temporarily suspended until they submit the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) for fire safety.

In Udham Singh Nagar district, 13 hospitals are affected by this ban, including five in Rudrapur, three in Kashipur, four in Khatima, and one in Sitarganj. Among the suspended facilities are Maharaja Agrasen Charitable Hospital, Mahajan Hospital, Krishna Hospital and Critical Care Center, Shriram Eye Care and Nursing Home in Rudrapur; Devkinandan Hospital, Paigiya Hospital, and Swastik Hospital in Kashipur; Prayas Hospital, Anand Hospital and Research Center, Tapan Hospital and Research Center, and Sparsh Hospital and Research Center in Khatima; and Dr. Tourna Surgical Hospital in Sitarganj.

The health authorities had issued notices to these hospitals on July 24, directing them to submit the fire safety NOC. Despite the notice, these hospitals failed to comply, leading to the temporary ban.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Chief Medical Officer of Udham Singh Nagar, stated, “The Health Authority has issued notices to 27 hospitals across the state, including 13 in Udham Singh Nagar district. These hospitals have been temporarily barred from operating under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. Until the ban is lifted, these hospitals will not be able to admit new patients under the scheme.”

The suspension will remain in effect until the hospitals provide the required fire safety documentation, ensuring a safer environment for patients.
