A notorious criminal sustained injuries during a late-night police encounter in the Cotton Mill area of Jaspur on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 2 am when two suspicious bike riders, upon being signaled to stop by the police at a vehicle check, opened fire and attempted to flee.
Acting swiftly, the police pursued the criminals, who veered into nearby fields. During the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects, identified as Dilshad, was shot in the leg. His accomplice, however, managed to escape under the cover of the chaos.
Dilshad, described by authorities as a “vicious criminal,” was immediately taken to Kashipur Government Hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to a higher medical facility in Haldwani for further care.
SSP Manikant Mishra arrived in Kashipur shortly after the incident to oversee the situation. SP City Abhay Singh confirmed Dilshad’s identity and highlighted his criminal background, stating that he had been involved in several serious crimes. Police sources further revealed that Dilshad was suspected of orchestrating the robbery of a bullion trader in Jaspur on September 14.
A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding accomplice.
