Rudrapur: The frequent breakdown of aging buses operated by the Transport Corporation has disrupted passenger services in Udham Singh Nagar district headquarters, Rudrapur. Currently, three buses from the Rudrapur depot are out of service, awaiting repairs. The depot operates 32 buses, with 47 additional buses running on contract to meet the demand.

According to the depot’s workshop, five of its buses have logged over 10 lakh kilometers, exceeding the limit for safe operation in the plains, where buses are typically declared junk after reaching this mileage. Five more buses are nearing this mark, having run over 9 lakh kilometers, while the remaining buses have covered 7–8 lakh kilometers. No new buses have been allocated to the depot since 2019-20, leading to increasing disruptions in services. The depot’s workshop has been working to repair the broken-down buses.

“Currently, one bus requires a new pump, which is being installed. Another has an engine fault, and one has faulty wiring. We’ve ordered the necessary parts,” said workshop in-charge foreman Balai Chandra Majumdar.

Divisional Operations Manager Pooja Joshi said, “The corporation has purchased new buses, and Rudrapur depot is expected to receive an allocation soon.”
