The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has arrested Aksheshwar Tiwari, a wanted criminal with a Rs 25,000 bounty on his head. The arrest is part of a campaign initiated by the Director General of Uttarakhand Police to crack down on fugitives with bounties.

Tiwari, a resident of Chainpur in Siwan district of Bihar, had been absconding for years after being implicated in a 2010 cheating and fraud case. He was wanted in connection with a complaint filed under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC at Rudrapur Police Station in Udham Singh Nagar district. Tiwari allegedly defrauded the public of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs in the Railway Department.

Despite multiple attempts to arrest him, Tiwari evaded capture by frequently changing his location and mobile numbers. “The accused was hiding in various locations across Bihar and Punjab,” said SSP STF Navneet Bhullar. “However, after tracing his movements to Siwan, Bihar, a team was dispatched, leading to his arrest.”

On September 25, led by CO STF RB Chamola and Inspector MP Singh, the STF team arrested Tiwari from the Chainpur Police Station area in Siwan. He was brought back to Rudrapur on a transit remand and is now in police custody.

“This arrest is a significant achievement in our campaign against absconding criminals,” added Bhullar. A permanent warrant had been issued for Tiwari’s arrest by the Rudrapur court, which had declared a bounty on him in February 2023.
