Drift will be made to remove water from the tunnel, work will be started from March 15. There was preparation for protective work inside the tunnel also. For this, 50 bags of sand were also brought inside, but later this work was suddenly stopped. After this, the new MD of NHIDCL along with the Executive Director took stock of the Silkyara Tunnel.
Drift will be prepared inside the Silkyara tunnel to remove water accumulated from leakage. This drift tunnel is planned to be constructed from the debris of landslide. Earlier, an attempt was being made to extract water by going inside through the pipes inserted through the auger machine, but since this was unsafe, now it has been decided to prepare a drift.
After the landslide accident in the four and a half km long Silkyara-Polgaon tunnel under construction on Yamunotri Highway, the construction work from the Silkyara end of the tunnel has come to a standstill. To start construction from the Silkyara end, it is necessary to remove landslide debris along with de-watering inside the tunnel. After the accident, on February 16, for the first time, a total of 10 people including SDRF personnel, senior and junior engineers went inside through the pipes inserted from the auger machine.
Drift will be prepared from the debris of landslide
After returning after inspecting the tunnel, there were preparations for protective work inside the tunnel as well. For this, 50 bags of sand were also brought inside, but later this work was suddenly stopped. After this, NHIDCL’s new MD (Managing Director) Dr. Krishna Kumar along with Executive Director Riten Singh took stock of the Silkyara Tunnel.
Now the news is that here the work of extracting water will not be done through the pipes laid through the auger machine, but instead a drift will be created from the debris of the landslide. Through which the work of removing water will be carried out. Which is expected to start on March 15. To drain water from the silkyara end of the tunnel, a drift will be prepared from the landslide debris. This drift will be such that a person will be able to come in and out safely. The work of extracting water will start from March 15. -Anshu Manish Khalko, Director NHIDCL.
