A leopard, which had instilled fear in residents around the Govishan mound and Drona Sagar complex, has finally been captured. The big cat was trapped in the cage installed by the forest department.
For nearly two years, two leopards and their two cubs resided within the mound area. Although the cubs died, the adult leopards continued to roam the premises, leading to safety concerns. “To ensure public safety, the Archaeological Department restricted access to the area on May 19, 2023,” said Govishan Mound Supervisor Ranjit Singh Bisht. The Forest Department responded by placing a cage in the area a month ago.
On Sunday, Bisht found the female leopard trapped in the cage and Devendra Singh Rajwar, the regional officer of the Forest Department. “The leopard has been relocated to Ramnagar’s Jim Corbett Park,” Rajwar said. However, another leopard remains at large in the complex.
