Dineshpur police in Udham Singh Nagar district arrested a man with 30 protected turtles during a late-night patrol on Saturday. Sub-Inspector Lokesh Kumar, leading the patrol on Sundarpur Road, spotted a man riding a bike, UK 06-M3942, from Sundarpur. “Upon seeing us, he appeared nervous and lost control, falling from his bike,” SI Kumar said.
During a search, the police discovered 30 turtles in a sack on the bike. The man identified himself as Parmanand Bachhad of Sundarpur and admitted to capturing the turtles from a river to sell in the market. A case under the Forest Animal Protection Act was filed, and after notifying the Forest Department, Bachhad was presented in court and remanded to jail.
