Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary made a big claim before the Election Commission (EC) announcement that the names of Gyanesh Kumar and Balwinder Sandhu have been finalized for the post of Election Commissioner. He said this while talking to media persons on Thursday (March 14, 2024).
According to Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, I and people from the search committee led by Arjun Ram Meghwal were present in the meeting. Even before attending the meeting, I had asked for a short list. It was said that a short list should be submitted. This is because short lists are made before selection. That’s why I had asked for that list. If I had got that list as soon as I reached Delhi, I would have got information about the candidates but I did not get that opportunity.”
The senior Congress leader further claimed – There were 212 names in the list given to me. I came to Delhi only last night and it was difficult to know about all the names before going to the selection meeting at 12 in the morning. In such a situation, I thought what is the use of looking at these 212 names. In our committee, the PM and the Home Minister are there and I am the only one from the opposition. From the beginning the majority in this committee is in favor of the government. Say it or not, in such a situation whatever the government wants will happen. The election commissioner will be selected according to the intentions of the government.
