27 injured as bus collides with overloaded mini-truck in US Nagar

As many as 27 people were injured after a private bus collided with an overloaded mini-truck (chhota hathi) carrying passengers at the Haldwani-Pantnagar turn in US Nagar district headquarters, Rudrapur on Tuesday morning. The accident, which caused the mini-truck to overturn, left many passengers, mostly women, with serious injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as the impact threw passengers to the ground, leading to panic and screams. The commuters took the injured to the JL Nehru district hospital. According to the police, six women, including 60-year-old Jaya, 40-year-old Durga, 36-year-old Saraswati, 23-year-old Rekha Mistry, and Sujata, were later referred to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani due to their critical condition.

SSP Manikant Mishra visited the district hospital to check on the injured and gather details about the accident. “We are ensuring that all necessary treatment is provided to the injured. Appropriate action will be taken following the investigation,” SSP Mishra said.

Circle Officer (CO) Rudrapur police, Niharika Tomar said, “Legal action as per the law will be pursued against those responsible for this unfortunate incident. We have taken both the bus and mini-truck into custody as investigations continue”.
