The Udham Singh Nagar police have uncovered a massive insurance scam involving Rs 3.53 crore in fraudulent claims. The scam, allegedly executed with the collusion of senior officials and surveyors of United India Insurance Company, came to light after a complaint was lodged by the company’s senior branch manager, Amish Kumar Srivastava.
On July 8, 2023, Srivastava reported at Rudrapur police station that two company officers, Ashwani Saxena and Hemant Jangpangi, in collaboration with surveyors and workshop owners, had committed fraud by filing false insurance claims. In his complaint he stated that they used photographs of the same damaged vehicle in multiple claims and exaggerated damages to inflate settlements.
SSP Manikant Mishra said that the investigation revealed significant irregularities. “Our probe found that the accused repeatedly used identical images of damaged vehicles across several claims. Many of these claims were either inflated or fabricated entirely,” Mishra said.
Following the investigation, the police arrested three individuals—Dinesh Kumar Katiyar of Pilibhit’s Surbhi Colony, Sumit Gupta of Ward No. 18 Transit Camp, and Prasun Kumar Dixit of Ward No. 2 ITI, Rudrapur. They have been charged under IPC Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B.
“The accused caused substantial financial losses to the insurance company, and we are investigating the roles of other involved parties,” Mishra added.
