Nainital police have successfully arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly threatened popular YouTuber Saurabh Joshi with a ₹2 crore extortion demand. The accused, claiming to be a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, sent Joshi a letter threatening him and his family with death unless the money was paid.
Joshi, who lives in Olivia Colony, Haldwani, filed a complaint on 17th November. An FIR was immediately registered under sections 308(4), 351(3), and 351(4) BNS at Kotwali Haldwani.
Under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prahlad Narayan Meena, a special police team was formed to investigate the case. The team reviewed CCTV footage, tracked down the source of the letter, and within just 12 hours, apprehended the accused, Arun Kumar, near Olivia Colony.
Kumar, a resident of Thanpur, Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, had previously worked as a security guard at the Radisson Hotel in Zirakpur. After being fired for behavioral issues, he resorted to extorting Joshi in an attempt to make quick money.
The police team responsible for the swift arrest includes Sub-Inspector Bhuvan Singh Rana, Sub-Inspector Jagdeep Singh Negi, Inspector Rajesh Kumar Yadav, and other officers from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surveillance Cell.
In recognition of the team’s efficiency, SSP Meena has announced a reward of ₹2,500 for the officers involved.
