Rudrapur: A shocking incident has come to light at GB Pant University, where a local youth allegedly recorded an objectionable video of three PhD scholars staying at the university’s international guest house. The case, which was initially hushed up, has now been registered following a Zero FIR filed in Dehradun and transferred to Udham Singh Nagar district.
According to the complaint, the three research scholars were sent from Dehradun to Pantnagar University on January 2, 2025, for academic work and were allotted rooms in the international guest house. On January 3, around 6 pm, one of the scholars noticed a youth filming her through the bathroom window while she was bathing. She raised an alarm, prompting the other two scholars to rush out, at which point the accused fled the scene.
The students later caught the suspect, a minor, who resides on the first floor of the guest house. During police questioning, the teenager reportedly admitted to the act and expressed remorse. However, the matter was allegedly suppressed due to pressure from university officials and police personnel. It is further alleged that guest house authorities and the police advised the victims to forgive the accused, claiming he was a minor, and pressured them to drop the case.
The victims, distressed by the incident and the subsequent pressure, filed a complaint with the Dehradun police. Their FIR has now been transferred to Pantnagar police station, where an official investigation has begun. The accused is the son of Deputy Branch Manager of a bank in Pantnagar, who was transferred to the branch two months ago. Due to a lack of accommodation, the family was residing in the guest house.
SSP Manikant Mishra confirmed the registration of the case and assured a thorough investigation. “The Zero FIR from Dehradun has been transferred, and the matter is serious. Action will be taken against those found guilty, including officials accused of pressuring the victims,” he stated.
The case has raised questions about security and accountability within the university premises, sparking outrage among students and faculty alike.
