Rudrapur: In a decisive step towards realising Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s “Fit Uttarakhand” campaign, the Kumaon Police has initiated a region-wide health mission to promote the physical and mental well-being of its personnel. Inspector General of Police, Kumaon Range, Ridhim Aggarwal, has issued comprehensive instructions to district police chiefs to implement structured wellness measures among the force.
As part of the initiative, Reserve Inspectors (RI) in all districts have been designated as Police Health Welfare Officers. They will be responsible for identifying personnel suffering from lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. These individuals will now be required to attend the Friday parade regularly, where they will undergo routine health check-ups under medical supervision.
“Proper guidance from doctors and nutritionists will be provided to help our personnel adopt a healthier lifestyle,” said IG Aggarwal. “Our goal is to ensure that every member of the force remains fit, active, and alert to their duties.”
To address more severe medical concerns, the initiative mandates that personnel battling critical illnesses—such as cancer, heart disease, or kidney/liver failure—receive priority medical leave. Additionally, DySPs (Police Lines) have been instructed to personally connect with the families of ailing staff members at least once a month, both telephonically and in person, to understand their circumstances and offer necessary support.
In cases of emergency treatment, the concerned personnel will be immediately referred to quality hospitals and provided financial assistance from life-saving funds at the district, range, or headquarters level. District heads will also coordinate directly with the treating hospitals to ensure consistent medical care. Furthermore, reimbursement of expenses under schemes like Ayushman and Golden Card will be expedited through active liaison with the State Health Authority.
“Helping our ailing colleagues is not just a duty; it reflects the humane and compassionate core of the Uttarakhand Police,” added Aggarwal. “This mission is a vital step toward a healthier, stronger police force that exemplifies the spirit of ‘Fit Uttarakhand, Empowered India’.”
