In a significant move to reinforce law and order in one of Haldwani’s most sensitive areas, the foundation stone for a new police station in Banbhoolpura was ceremoniously laid on Tuesday. Inspector General (IG) of Police, Kumaon Range, Ridhim Aggarwal, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nainital, Prahlad Narayan Meena, performed the ‘bhoomi poojan’ ritual to formally mark the beginning of the construction work.
This development follows a key announcement made last year by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, wherein he sanctioned the establishment of a dedicated police station in Banbhoolpura. The decision aimed at addressing the longstanding law and order concerns in the locality, which has witnessed frequent incidents of unrest and criminal activity. With land now officially allocated, all necessary administrative and technical formalities were completed in close coordination with the State Police Headquarters and the District Police Administration.
Speaking at the event, IG Ridhim Aggarwal underlined the strategic significance of the new police station. “This police station will be a milestone in ensuring better crime control and law enforcement in Banbhoolpura. It will also serve as a vital hub for swift and responsive police services to local residents,” she said. Aggarwal further stressed the importance of having a strong police presence in the area to effectively monitor the movement of suspicious individuals, keep anti-social elements in check, and respond promptly to public grievances.
SSP Meena expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, Director General of Police (DGP), and other senior officials, highlighting that the station fulfills a long-pending need of the region. “With this new establishment, policing will become more modern and efficient, leading to improved peace and order in Banbhoolpura and nearby localities,” he said.
The foundation ceremony witnessed the presence of several senior police officials, including SP City Haldwani Prakash Chandra, CO Haldwani Nitin Lohani, and SHO Banbhoolpura Neeraj Bhakuni, along with a large gathering of police personnel.
