In a decisive move to make Uttarakhand a corruption-free and drug-free state, as per the directives of the Honorable Chief Minister, Inspector General (IG) of Kumaon Range, Ridhim Aggarwal, has taken a significant step by forming a Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) at the range level. This newly established team aims to effectively control the rampant drug trade and tackle corruption involving police collusion, while strengthening law and order and ensuring peace and security in society.

IG Aggarwal emphasized a strict zero-tolerance policy against police personnel involved in any criminal activities during the task force operations. “If any police officer is found complicit in criminal conduct during SOTF actions, stringent punitive measures will be enforced without exception,” she said firmly.

A dedicated helpline number, 9411110057, has been introduced for citizens to report illegal drug trade, police corruption, and organized or heinous crimes. The helpline ensures the confidentiality of informants. For other complaints or emergencies, citizens are advised to call the regular emergency number, 112.

The IG highlighted that persistent complaints had been received from public representatives and citizens across various districts of Kumaon regarding drug sales, police involvement in corruption, and serious organized crimes. Despite prior instructions to local police, many complaints were neglected or superficially addressed, with some officers found colluding with criminals. Disturbingly, illegal drug peddlers near schools and colleges are entrapping youth in addiction, leading to their physical, mental, and social decline.

To address these challenges effectively, IG Aggarwal announced that a rigorous selection process was conducted to recruit capable and willing police officers from across the Kumaon districts for the SOTF. This elite team will independently investigate complaints related to drug trafficking and police misconduct, ensuring swift and impartial action.

“Any evidence of police complicity will be met with the harshest penalties. No police personnel will be spared in such cases,” the IG declared. The SOTF will not only heed public grievances seriously but will also thoroughly probe each case to bring culprits to justice.

This bold initiative has already raised public hope for effective crime control and restored confidence that their complaints will be addressed sincerely. The historic step by the Kumaon Range Police is set to instill fear among criminals and boost the morale of honest officers. It clearly signals that no criminal element will be allowed to thrive and that the rule of law will prevail under all circumstances.
