In a major crackdown against narcotics, the Kumaon police under the leadership of Inspector General (IG) Ridhim Aggarwal has achieved a historic milestone by conducting the region’s largest-ever disposal of seized narcotic substances. This landmark action aligns with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision of a “Drug-Free Uttarakhand” and was carried out as part of a special drive marking International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.
On July 7, as part of this campaign, a total of 914.91 kilograms of confiscated narcotic substances — seized in 324 cases across various districts of the Kumaon region — were scientifically and legally disposed of through incineration at Global Environmental Solutions, Lamba Khera, Rudrapur. The process strictly adhered to environmental standards and legal protocols, under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee.
“This is not just a legal procedure, but a moral responsibility towards our society. We are committed to ensuring transparency and urgency in disposing of seized substances,” said IG Ridhim Aggarwal, who has taken personal interest and ensured continuous follow-up of this massive effort.
The quantum of the disposal is the highest ever recorded in Kumaon’s history. To put it in perspective:
In 2022, 292 kg of narcotics were disposed of in 53 cases.
In 2023, the figure rose to 719 kg across 134 cases.
In 2024, only 57.699 kg were disposed of in 77 cases.
Now, in 2025, a staggering 914.91 kg from 324 cases has been disposed of — setting a new record.
What sets this effort apart is the inclusion of cases dating as far back as 1985, 1995, and 1998. Substances that had been lying in police storage for decades were systematically identified and disposed of, ensuring that no seized item remains languishing unnecessarily. IG Aggarwal ensured direct communication with police stations and monitored that court-sanctioned disposals were executed without delay, thus streamlining the judicial process and reducing the burden on police storerooms.
“This campaign will not stop here. All district police chiefs have been directed to carry forward this process consistently and without delay,” added the IG.
Beyond being a procedural success, the drive reflects the police’s ethical commitment, environmental responsibility, and resolve to protect public interest — making it a true milestone in Uttarakhand’s fight against drugs.
