Deepak Mhaske (58), the new social media in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is from Chhattisgarh’s Raipur. He replaces Amit Malviya in the role.
Mhaske has around 15 years of experience in the party’s IT and social media cell and has also led social media campaigns in multiple Assembly elections, including in Bihar, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, where the party recorded resounding victories.
He is a first-generation BJP leader, while his brother, Tej Pratap Mhaske, is with the RSS. Mhaske has never contested an election.
On August 14, he met BJP chief Nitin Nabin in Delhi and posted afterwards: “On this occasion, discussions were held on various topics related to the organisation and public service. Shri Nabin Ji’s guidance, simplicity, and dedication to the organisation are always inspiring.”
Mhaske is posted with the Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation (Cabinet Minister of State rank) and has previously served as the state BJP spokesperson.
He has also served as a Non-Governmental/Independent Director on the Board of Engineers India Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
His family is into farming, and he too has decades of experience in crops and organic farming.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a Professor of Chemistry at a college for several years. He is also known to have an interest in data collection, analysis and governance-related roles.
