The tourism department of district Udham Singh Nagar is spearheading significant developments at Baur Reservoir in Gularbhoj to bolster its appeal as a premier tourist destination. Emphasizing infrastructure and accessibility, the district has approved an investment of Rs 90 lakh from the district plan for the reservoir’s beautification and expansion.

Known for its nine-and-a-half-kilometer stretch of natural beauty, the reservoir already draws tourists for its range of boating activities, including kayaking, jet skiing, and pontoon boating. Under the new initiative, two boat jetties and designated selfie points will be constructed along the reservoir. Additionally, ramps will be built to facilitate easy access to the jetties. “With the construction of these jetties, boating companies can park their boats more efficiently, and tourists will find it easier to board them via the ramps,” said District Tourism Officer Lata Bisht. She further added, “We aim to enhance the overall visitor experience and accommodate the increasing number of tourists.”

Currently, five boating companies operate at Baur Reservoir—three local firms and two from Tehri and Dehradun. The addition of new jetties along with parking facilities budgeted at Rs 20 lakh, is expected to streamline operations and attract more businesses. The Irrigation Department has been designated as the implementing agency for these projects.

In a bid to attract high-profile tourists, the tourism department is also making strides to construct a helipad near a leased resort adjacent to the reservoir. “We have marked the land for the helipad, and our technical team has confirmed its suitability. The proposal has been submitted to the tourism secretary for approval,” Bisht added.

Manish Arya, an avid traveler who frequently visits Baur Reservoir, said: “The new developments will significantly enhance the tourist experience. The addition of jetties and better access means more activities and easier navigation, making Baur Reservoir an even more attractive destination and it will solidify its reputation as a natural haven offering boating, kayaking, jet skiing, paddle boating, and pontoon boating, attracting a growing number of visitors each year”.
