A 24-year-old software professional in Bengaluru recently died by suicide after her uncle allegedly threatened to leak their private messages, intimate videos, and photographs.
The police said the two met at a hotel near Kundalahalli metro station on Sunday to “resolve their issues”. The woman reportedly attempted suicide in the hotel room. She was rushed to the Victoria Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, the accused uncle also sustained minor injuries while trying to save the woman.
Preliminary investigation revealed the two might have been in a relationship. The FIR registered in the case states that the accused started harassing the woman after she started seeing someone else. The accused, who was the husband of the victim’s aunt, allegedly demanded sexual favours and threatened to leak private videos. A friend of the woman informed the parents about her alleged harassment on Monday.
The police did not find any incriminating photos or videos on the accused’s phone. The mobile phone and a pen drive belonging to the accused have been confiscated and sent for forensic analysis.
The police have filed a case against the accused under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have arrested him.
