Rudrapur: In a shocking case of animal cruelty, a stray dog was brutally killed by a couple and unidentified individuals in MJ Marketof Pancheel Colony in Khatima of Udham Singh Nagar district. The dog was mercilessly beaten with sticks, tied to a tractor with a rope, and dragged to death.

The horrifying act was captured in videos and photos, which have sparked outrage among animal rights activists. Pratham Bisht, a member of the District Animal Cruelty Prevention Committee, condemned the incident. “The visuals clearly show the brutality inflicted on the helpless animal. This is a severe offense under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and BNS 325,” he said.

A complaint has been lodged at Chakarpur police station by animal activist Gaurav Singh, naming Raju Kumar, his wife Rani Devi, and other unidentified individuals as the accused. “We demand strict legal action against the culprits, a police-supervised postmortem to strengthen the judicial process, and immediate measures to prevent such barbaric acts in the future,” Bisht added.

The incident gained traction after Bisht raised the issue on social platform X. Responding to public outrage, Uttarakhand Animal Husbandry Minister Saurabh Bahuguna took cognizance of the matter and assured strict action against the accused.

Police officials have confirmed that legal proceedings will follow once the postmortem is conducted. “The matter is under investigation, and necessary legal action will be taken based on the findings,” said a police official.
