The European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a funding of Rs 916 crore for providing clean drinking water to Rudrapur and Kashipur, two major cities in Udham Singh Nagar district. The projects, managed by the Uttarakhand Urban Area Development Agency, aim to enhance water supply infrastructure in both cities, benefiting approximately 65,000 families.

According to the agency’s officials, Rs 483 crore has been allocated to Rudrapur, while Rs 433 crore will be invested in Kashipur. The Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for both cities have been submitted to the government for approval. Once the green light is received, tenders for the projects will be floated.

The EIB-funded projects aim to install 50 new tube wells across both cities—25 in Rudrapur and 27 in Kashipur. In addition, six existing tube wells will undergo renovation to enhance their efficiency. The construction of 17 overhead water tanks, seven in Rudrapur and ten in Kashipur, is also planned, with varying capacities to meet the growing water demand. The project will involve laying a total of 1,000 kilometers of new pipelines, ensuring round-the-clock availability of clean drinking water for 33,000 families in Rudrapur and 30,000 families in Kashipur.

A key highlight of the project is the implementation of the Skoda automatic monitoring system, which will oversee all development work related to the water supply. “This advanced system will ensure seamless monitoring of the project’s progress and quality control,” said Kuldeep Singh, Project Manager of the Uttarakhand Urban Area Development Agency. He added, “The construction companies assigned to the project will be responsible for maintaining the infrastructure for five years after completion, ensuring sustainability and long-term benefits. We are awaiting government approval, after which the tendering process will commence,” said Singh. Once completed, this initiative is expected to solve the drinking water crisis in both cities.
