The fifth day of boxing matches at the 38th National Games continued today at the Shri Hari Singh Thapa Sports College Indoor Stadium in Pithoragarh. Exciting preliminary matches were played in various weight categories for both men and women, where several experienced and young athletes captivated the audience with their outstanding performances.

In the women’s light flyweight (50 kg) category, Malika Mor from Madhya Pradesh defeated Anjali Gupta from Maharashtra, while Kalpana from Haryana won against Anjana Thakur from Himachal Pradesh to advance to the next round. In the bantamweight (54 kg) category, Punjab’s Sandeep Kaur faced defeat against Sonia from Uttar Pradesh, whereas Maharashtra’s Chaitansi Shah could not withstand Gujarat’s Hetal Dama.

In the featherweight (57 kg) category, Punjab’s Mandeep Kaur was defeated by Services’ Sakshi, while Chandigarh’s Aarti Mehra lost to Madhya Pradesh’s Mahi Lama. In the lightweight (60 kg) category, Jharkhand’s Sneha Kumari Gupta suffered a loss against Services’ Jasmine, whereas Rajasthan’s Anju was defeated by Himachal Pradesh’s Meenakshi Devi.

In the welterweight (66 kg) category, Chandigarh’s Manu Nimat outperformed Mizoram’s Vanlalhriatpui, while Uttarakhand’s Kajal secured a remarkable victory against Madhya Pradesh’s Manju Bamboria. In the middleweight (75 kg) category, Uttarakhand’s Babita Bisht put up a strong fight against Assam’s Lovlina Borgohain but had to face defeat. Meanwhile, Nagaland’s Renu defeated Kerala’s Alisha M. Sunny to advance to the next round.

The men’s matches were equally thrilling. In the flyweight (51 kg) category, Mizoram’s Zorammuana lost to Chandigarh’s Anshul Punia, while Manipur’s Changlemba Singh defeated Jammu and Kashmir’s Mohammad Arif. In the featherweight (57 kg) category, Services’ Sachin won against Uttarakhand’s Pawan Barthwal, whereas Haryana’s Lakhveer Lamba triumphed over Sikkim’s M. Biswas Limbu.

In the light welterweight (63.5 kg) category, Himachal Pradesh’s Avinash Jamwal was defeated by Services’ Vanshaj, while Chhattisgarh’s Akash Sahu suffered a loss against Delhi’s Konda Shashank Pradhan. In the light middleweight (71 kg) category, Delhi’s Gagan won against Rajasthan’s Priyadarsh Singh Ashay, whereas Assam’s Abhinav Saikia defeated Uttarakhand’s Neeraj Pujari.

In the light heavyweight (80 kg) category, Tamil Nadu’s Manikandan was defeated by Chandigarh’s Nitish Kumar, while Services’ Lakshya Chahar secured a victory against Delhi’s Dhruv Singh. In the heavyweight (92 kg) category, Jammu and Kashmir’s Asif Nawaz lost to Delhi’s Sohiy Dral, whereas Madhya Pradesh’s Paras triumphed over Chandigarh’s Sawan Gill.

In the super heavyweight (+92 kg) category, Uttar Pradesh’s Ravi Kumar was defeated by Delhi’s Vishal Kumar, while Uttarakhand’s Narendra secured a spectacular victory against Services’ Gaurav Chauhan.
