Gautam Gambhir Requests Relief from Political Duties to Focus on Cricket Commitments

In a significant development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has formally requested the party’s chief, JP Nadda, to relieve him of his political responsibilities. The former cricketer, known for his vocal criticism of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, expressed his intent to shift his focus towards his upcoming cricket commitments.

Gambhir, who joined the BJP ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and triumphed over AAP’s Atishi in the East Delhi constituency, announced his decision through a social media post. He conveyed, “I have requested BJP president JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so that I can focus on my upcoming cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and Amit Shah ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind!”

While the statement did not explicitly confirm Gambhir’s exit from politics, it suggests that he will not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Delhi. This move comes just weeks before the elections and raises questions about the BJP’s strategy for the polls.

Gautam Gambhir, a cricket icon who played a pivotal role in India’s 2007 and 2011 World Cup victories, is gearing up for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), set to commence next month. The cricketer, who scored 4,154 runs in 58 test matches and 5,238 runs in 147 ODIs, is currently the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan.

Acknowledged as one of the country’s most impactful cricketers, Gambhir has also excelled as a commentator. His decision to step back from politics indicates a renewed commitment to his illustrious cricketing career.

As the BJP prepares to face the Congress-AAP alliance in Delhi, Gambhir’s absence from the political arena may mark a shift in the dynamics of the upcoming elections.
