Grand Inauguration of 15 BIS Student Chapters and BIS Corner at GBPUAT

Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology has become the first university in India to establish and inaugurate 15 BIS Student Chapters simultaneously. This is a historic step towards standardization and a significant initiative to make students more aware of quality and standards.

 

The event was graced by Mr. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, IAS, Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), as the Chief Guest. The program was presided over by Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of the university. Special guests included Mr. Saurabh Tiwari, Director and Head of BIS Dehradun Branch Office, and Dr. S.B. Singh, BIS Chair Professor.

 

Mr. Tiwari thanked the University for its Collaboration and stated that through these chapters, students will gain exposure to scientific discourse, participate in seminars and conclaves, explore internship opportunities at BIS, and engage in projects related to standardization. They will also develop leadership and innovation skills and build connections with the industry.

 

On this occasion, the BIS Corner was also inaugurated jointly by Mr. Pramod Kumar Tiwari and Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan in the university library. The BIS Corner will provide the latest literature, publications, standard reference books, and informative materials related to BIS for students and faculty, supporting academic and research advancement.

 

An orientation session for student chapter mentors was conducted to familiarize them with BIS objectives, activities, and chapter operations. A special meeting was also held with Deans and Heads of Departments, chaired by Mr. Tiwari. Key topics discussed included long-term academic and research collaboration with BIS, integration of standardization in curriculum, student engagement, creation of a National Agriculture Core, SADF project framework, and BIS’s role in agriculture and rural development. This event symbolizes strong cooperation between BIS and the university, aiming to cultivate student interest in quality, standards, and innovation.
