In view of the first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Kumaon Range, Ridhim Aggarwal has directed all district-level officers to ensure that the polling process is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner. She instructed that all zonal and sector magistrates deployed for election duty must inspect the security arrangements at polling booths during the night as well.
Addressing the officers, IG Aggarwal said, “Every officer on duty must take personal responsibility to ensure that the polling stations remain safe and secure. Zonal and sector officers must carry out night inspections to ensure there are no lapses in the arrangements.”
She warned that strict surveillance would be maintained on anti-social elements attempting to disturb law and order during the elections. “Any individual found trying to disrupt the electoral process will face strict legal action. No one will be spared if they attempt to interfere with the peaceful conduct of elections,” she asserted.
Appealing to the general public, the IG urged citizens to come out in large numbers and cast their votes without any fear or hesitation. “Voting is not just a right but a responsibility. I appeal to every eligible voter to contribute to strengthening our democracy by participating fearlessly in the polling process,” she added.
The first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections is being closely monitored by senior police officials, and security has been beefed up across sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incidents.
