With over a decade of experience, 10 doctors and 15 health professionals enrolled in IIM’s unique PG Course in Hospital Management, which was introduced in collaboration with Max Healthcare.
Kashipur/ Dehradun: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kashipur has launched a first-of-its-kind, a-year-long Post Graduate Executive Program in Hospital Management for doctors and healthcare professionals in association with Max Health Care.
The new program has been designed to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the Indian health sector who can effectively manage hospitals and healthcare facilities.
The program offers a comprehensive blend of theoretical concepts, practical case studies, and industry exposure, providing participants with a deep understanding of the healthcare industry.
As many as 10 practicing doctors and 15 healthcare professionals have enrolled in the first batch of the program, who come not only from diverse backgrounds but also from diverse locations like Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nepal, Rajasthan, UP, and others. They are associated with various private and government hospitals.
“For the first time, an IIM partnered with a major healthcare group viz. Max Hospital and designed a unique one-year course for health professionals to cater to the growing demand for skilled health professionals in India,” said Prof. Kunal Ganguly, Dean (Development) at IIM Kashipur, who is a brainchild behind the program.
“The classes for the first batch will be taken by faculty from both IIM Kashipur and Max Health Care with practical training at the Max hospitals,” Prof. Ganguly said, adding that all pass-out professionals will be given the status of IIM Executive Alumni.
The joint initiative comes at a time when the government is prioritizing the expansion of healthcare infrastructure and the implementation of public health initiatives.
In the inaugural speech, IIM Kashipur director, Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni, expressed gratitude to all who designed the program and introduced it. “We have taken many initiatives in the past couple of years. But this program pleases me the most. I’m happy to say that IIM Kashipur is taking the lead in introducing such a unique course to train professionals in the field of healthcare.”
India’s healthcare industry has witnessed significant growth on the global stage, prompting a surge in investments in hospitals, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and health technologies. To sustain this growth and ensure world-class services, there is an increasing requirement for skilled operations managers in hospitals.
Recognizing this need, the Post Graduate Executive Program in Hospital Management will bridge the gap by providing competent and committed professionals to the healthcare sector.
The PG Executive Program in Hospital Management stands as a testament to its dedication to equipping professionals with the specialized knowledge required to excel in the dynamic realm of hospital management.
This is not the first time that both organizations have partnered to address the increasing demand for trained manpower for the sector. Between September 2023 and January 2024, IIM Kashipur and Max Hospital conducted a four-month-long Leadership Development Program where 75 senior professionals honed their skills and learned leadership skills.
Umesh Gupta, Senior Director – of HR and Chief People Officer at Max Healthcare, emphasized the importance of the collaborative initiative, “A premier institution collaborated with India’s second-largest healthcare chain to train health professionals. As the healthcare industry rapidly evolves, our commitment to developing, nurturing, and empowering skilled leaders has never been more crucial.”
Ritu Verma, senior VP of HR at Max Hospital, explained that professionals will learn the nuances of the healthcare sector, like how to run a hospital, budgeting, manpower needed and how to tackle unique situations.
The program covers a range of topics, including Healthcare Economics, Financial Management in Healthcare, Sales & Marketing Strategy in Healthcare Organization Behavior and Human Resource Management, Operation Management and Process Analysis Supply Chain Management, Emerging Technologies in Healthcare, Medico-Legal and Strategic Management.
