Key accused arrested in attack on forest officials in US Nagar

The Gadarpur police arrested Swarn Singh, alias Sonu alias Chikna, the main suspect involved in an attack on a forest department patrol team in September. Swarn Singh is a resident of Madiahattu under Kelakhera police station limits in Udham Singh Nagar district.

On September 6, a group of armed assailants ambushed forest department officials in Peepal Parao Forest, indiscriminately firing and injuring forest ranger Roop Narayan Gautam and other personnel. Following Gautam’s complaint, Gadarpur police registered a case under several sections, including 109(1), 121(2), 132, and 191(3) of the BNS, and the Forest Protection Act against multiple suspects: Sangat Singh alias Sangi, Gurmeet Singh alias Geji, Sarvjit Singh alias Chhabbi, Sandeep, and Kuldeep Singh alias Kippy.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manikant Mishra instructed the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Gadarpur police to expedite the arrests. SHO Jasvir Chauhan and the SOG team had arrested Gurmeet Singh on September 9 and Sarvjit Singh on September 12.

SSP Mishra said, “We are committed to taking strict action against those who threaten public servants. Further legal proceedings are underway, and the accused will be presented before the court.”
