The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of Baba Tarsem Singh, Dera Kar Sewa Chief of Nanakmatta Gurudwara Sahib in Udham Singh Nagar by arresting two key conspirators on Friday evening. One of them identified as Satnam Singh was arrested near the Nepal border, while another conspirator, Sultan Singh, also identified as the mastermind behind the crime, was captured in Haryana. Details of the arrested accused include Sultan Singh, 55 years old, resident of Gadafarm police station in Bilaspur of district Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, and Satnam Singh, 51 years old, resident of Kuiya Maholia police station, Banda of district Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

District’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manjunath TC divulging the information on Saturday at the Nanakmatta police station, said, “Our Special Investigation Team (SIT) worked tirelessly to apprehend the accused. Satnam Singh, who had been evading arrest by frequently changing his location, was finally caught in the Gauriphanta area of district Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Sultan Singh, with a history of criminal activities, was captured in the Pillukhera police station area in the Jind district of Haryana.”

“The arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to nine, with one suspect having been killed in an encounter earlier. Satnam Singh, along with co-conspirators Dilbagh, Balkar, Pargat, and Harvinder alias Pindi, conspired to murder Baba Tarsem. Meetings were reportedly held at a Gurudwara in Awas Vikas and at Dilbagh’s residence to plan the murder. The accused provided financial resources, mobile phones, weapons, and other essentials to professional criminals, Sarabjit and Amarjeet, to carry out the crime”, said SSP Manjunath.

Sultan Singh, the alleged mastermind, orchestrated the murder due to an ongoing rivalry over control of Gurudwaras and religious sites in the Terai region. “Sultan Singh played a pivotal role in orchestrating this murder. He connected the conspirators to the main shooter, Amarjeet alias Bittu alias Ganda, and provided financial and logistical support to the shooters. Sultan is a bounty criminal with a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head”, added Manjunath TC.

Efforts are now underway to apprehend Sarabjit Singh, another key suspect in the case, with a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on his head. Raids are being conducted in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi to locate and arrest him. Among the wanted accused is Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab who has a reward of Rs one lakh on his head. Baba Anoop Singh, Pritam Singh Sandhu, Harvansh Singh Chugh (Retired IAS), and Fatehjit Singh Khalsa are also being sought for their involvement in the crime.

SSP Manjunath said, “The process of collecting evidence against the arrested accused is ongoing, and strict legal action will be taken against all involved parties.”
