Rudrapur: Panic spread in the Haripur Motiya area of the Belbaba Bhakra Range under the Terai Central Forest Division after two leopard cubs were spotted early Monday morning near the Haldwani-Rampur Road. The Forest Department teams reached the spot to rescue the cubs and ensure public safety.

The sighting occurred when a local woman went to cut grass in the area. “While cutting grass, I felt a sharp claw on my hand. Initially, I thought it was a kitten, but upon closer inspection, I realized it was a leopard cub,” the woman said. She immediately called her husband to the spot, where they discovered a second cub nearby. They instantly alerted the Forest Department.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Umesh Tiwari said, “Our team has reached the site and installed cameras to monitor the cubs. They appear to be about a month old. The mother likely retreated into the forest due to human activity but is expected to return for her young.”

Forest officials are keeping constant watch to ensure the safety of both the cubs and the surrounding community.
