A 10-12-year-old male tiger was found dead in Jhirna Beat (Kithora) Compartment No. 09 in the Jhirna Range of Jim Corbett National Park during a routine patrol on Thursday. Death of the big cat in Corbett Tiger Reserve has caused significant concern. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Corbett administration team reached the location to investigate.

During a routine patrol, the team discovered a deceased male tiger. The patrol team immediately notified higher officials. Subsequently, a panel comprising veterinary officers Dr Himanshu Pangti and Dr Tarun Garg was formed to conduct an investigation. Initial findings suggest the tiger, aged between 10-12 years, died naturally due to old age.

“We have sent samples of the tiger’s organs to Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) Izzatnagar in Bareilly for further testing,” said Dr Pangti.

The investigation and subsequent actions were overseen by Deputy Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve Diganth Nayak, Sub Divisional Forest Officer Shalini Joshi, Forest Range Officer Nandkishore Ruwali, and other officials. Following the standards of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the tiger’s body was cremated along with all its parts in the presence of the attending officers and employees.
