The girl became pregnant during this period.
The victim claims that the accused beat her regularly due to which she also attempted suicide following which she was admitted to a hospital. Since then, the accused is stated to be absconding. The Police have filed a case against the accused on the complaint filed by the victim.
In her complaint, the girl claimed that she was aged 17 and a class 11 student in a Dehradun school where she was a topper in the Tenth Board examination. She knew the accused Suhail Qureshi alias Nadeem Qureshi who became friendly with her and soon started pressurising her to marry him. However, she was focussed on her studies and wanted to make her career. When she refused to marry him, the accused threatened her father several times. On 4 August, when she was returning from the school, the accused picked her up in a car on the pretext of dropping her home. However, he took her to his house. On 6 August, the accused’s mother Gulshan Jahan called a Maulana and forced her to enter into Nikah with her son. After a month of marriage, the accused and his mother started beating her up and pressurised her to get dowry from her parents. Meanwhile, she also became pregnant.
She further alleged that she was beaten again by the accused and his mother on 13 October. As the things had gone beyond her control, she drank poison after which her health deteriorated and she had to be admitted to the hospital by the accused Suhail Qureshi, who claimed that the victim was having severe stomach-ache. He has been absconding since. The victim somehow contacted her mother and shared her ordeal. Finally, the victim registered her complaint with the Police yesterday.
In charge of City Kotwali, Chandrabhan Singh has confirmed that a case has been registered against Nadeem Qureshi and his mother Gulshan Jahan, both of whom live near the Railway Station. He added that the Police are looking for the accused and will arrest him soon.
