In a significant development in the nurse brutality case in US Nagar district headquarters, Rudrapur, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has recovered the mobile phone of the deceased, which could serve as crucial evidence in the case and have arrested the man who was using it.
On July 31, a woman from Dibdiba Bilaspur in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, lodged a missing person report at Rudrapur Police Station. She reported that her 33-year-old sister was last seen on July 30 traveling from Indra Chowk, Rudrapur, in a tempo but never reached home. The investigation was handed over to Sub-Inspector Chandan Singh Bisht. The victim, a single mother, worked as a nurse in a private hospital in Rudrapur.
On August 8, the victim’s skeletal remains were discovered on Vasundhara Road in Dibdiba. Based on surveillance and investigation, accused Dharmendra Kumar was arrested. During interrogation, he confessed, “On July 30, I intercepted her near Vasundhara Colony, raped her, and strangled her. I fled with her phone and Rs 3,000.”
Further investigation revealed that Dharmendra had given Tasleem’s phone to his associate, Bihari Lal, a resident of Tursa Patti in Bareilly of Uttar Pradesh. “Knowing it was stolen, Bihari Lal accepted the phone,” said Inspector Manohar Singh. Bihari Lal was arrested on August 31 under Section 317(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Both accused have been remanded to custody as the investigation continues.
