In preparation for the expansion of Pantnagar’s international airport in district Udham Singh Nagar, a seven-kilometer stretch of National Highway 109 will be relocated to the rear of the airport. The district administration has allocated 103 acres from Pantnagar University and Sainik Farm to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the new highway construction. NHAI has initiated the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project, expected to be completed by December 22.

To support the airport expansion, the administration recently transferred 524.78 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India, which includes portions of NH 109 that fall under the airport’s planned area. According to officials, the realigned highway will curve near the Anandi Mata Temple, follow the railway line, and reconnect with the main highway near Sanjay Colony, passing close to the airport’s boundary.

“NHAI has received 103 acres of land for highway relocation, and the DPR is underway,” said Vikas Mittal, Project Director, NHAI. “We expect to finalize and submit it to the government by late December.”

District Magistrate Udayraj Singh said, “NHAI now holds 103 acres for this purpose, including land from the university and Sainik Farm, and the initial survey has been completed.”
