Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for commuters in the city and the national capital region (NCR) for the Republic Day parade’s full dress rehearsal on Thursday, January 23.
Some traffic restrictions will be in effect in Delhi in view of the Parade Full Dress Rehearsal on #RepublicDay 23 January 2025. Passengers are requested to avoid using the mentioned routes and plan their journey accordingly,” the Traffic police said in its post on X.
The route of the Republic Day parade, as per the advisory, is: Vijay Chowk > Kartavyapath > C-Hexagon > R/A Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose > Tilak Marg > Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg > Netaji Subhash Marg > Red Fort.
Routes to avoid
Traffic movement prohibited from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from January 22, 6 pm, till the parade is over.
No cross traffic will be allowed from 11 pm on January 22 at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road till the parade is over.
C-Hexagon will be closed from 9:15 am on January 23 till the parade crossed Tilak Marg.
No traffic movement will be allowed on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg and Subhash Marg on both directions from 10:30 am on January 23.
Alternate routes
North-South Corridor:
Ring Road Ashram Chowk to Sarai Kale Khan to IP Flyover to Rajghat to Ring Road.
From Madarsa to Lodhi Road ‘T’ point to Aurobindo Marg to AIIMS Chowk to Ring Road to Dhaula Kuan to Vande Mataram Marg to Shankar Road to Park Street or Mandir Marg.
Notably, the Delhi metro rail services will remain available for commuters at all the stations during the full dress rehearsal on Thursday, January 23.
Additionally, the traffic advisory mentioned that no heavy goods vehicle, medium goods vehicle or light goods vehicle will be allowed to enter Delhi borders from 9 pm on January 22 till the completion of full dress rehearsals of the Republic Day parade on January 23. However, essential services are exempted from these restrictions.
The Delhi Traffic Police has mentioned advisories for Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), and Gurugram in the same document.
Earlier, the traffic police had issued an advisory for the full dress rehearsal on January 22 and for the Republic Day celebration at Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, on January 25.
In view of Full Dress #RepublicDay Parade Rehearsal on 22nd January, 2025 and Republic Day Celebration on 25th January, 2025 at Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, Delhi, special traffic arrangements will be effective on various routes. Please follow the advisory,” the traffic police said in its post on X. These restrictions will be in place from 6 am to 1 pm.
Alternate routes suggested by Delhi Traffic Police are:
Inner Ring Road – from IP College to Azadpur Chowk
GTK Road – from Shakti Nagar to Azadpur Chowk
Chhatrasal Stadium Road, Gujrawala Town
Burari Chowk to Vijay Nagar T-Point via Camp Chowk
Police have asked commuters and motorists to stay updated on the traffic restrictions in the national capital and plan their travel accordingly.
Notably, at the January 25 Republic Day celebration at the Chhatrasal Stadium, chief minister Atishi will host the National Flag. The traffic police said that for this event, around 250 buses and 1000 light vehicles are expected to come, which may possibly cause congestion around the stadium.
