The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the high-profile murder case of a nurse from district Udham Singh Nagar and issued a notice to the Uttarakhand government. This development was revealed by the deceased’s family during a press conference held at their residence in Gadarpur on Thursday evening.

The sister of the deceased, credited Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani for his role in pushing the case forward. “Thanks to the efforts of Maulana Madani, the Supreme Court is now reviewing my sister’s case. We believe justice will finally be served,” she said.

Social worker Mohammad Shadab, who has supported the family since the day of the murder, also spoke at the event. He expressed his gratitude to Maulana Madani and his legal team, led by senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishna, for presenting the case before the Supreme Court. “The victim’s family has been dissatisfied with the police investigation from the start. With the case now in the hands of the Supreme Court, we are confident that justice will prevail,” Shadab said. The Supreme Court’s notice directs the Uttarakhand government to respond to the concerns raised by the victim’s family.
The 33-year-old single mother, who worked at a private hospital in Rudrapur, went missing on July 30 after leaving work. Her sister lodged a missing person report at the Rudrapur police station the next day, stating that she was last seen travelling from Indra Chowk in a tempo but never reached her home in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

On Aug 8, the skeletal remains of the victim were discovered on Vasundhara Road in Dibdiba. Following the investigation, the police arrested Dharmendra Kumar, a resident of Bareilly, who confessed to the crime during interrogation. “On July 30, I intercepted her near Vasundhara Colony, raped her, and strangled her. I fled with her phone and Rs 3,000,” he said. But the family had been continuously demanding a CBI probe in the incident.
