Thousands gathered at Gandhi Park in Rudrapur, the headquarters of Udham Singh Nagar district, on Sunday for the Aakrosh Rally, organized by the Manvadhikar Morcha, to protest against alleged atrocities on minority communities in Bangladesh. The rally saw saints and religious leaders urging Hindus to safeguard themselves by keeping weapons for self-defense, citing growing concerns over escalating fundamentalist aggression.
A memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, demanding urgent intervention for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh, was handed over to Additional District Magistrate Pankaj Upadhyay. The memorandum highlighted the rising attacks on temples, religious leaders, and women in Bangladesh and called for decisive action by the Indian government.
Prabhu Sarv Mangal Ji Maharaj, President of ISKCON Temple Rudrapur, condemned the violence against ISKCON temples in Bangladesh, including the harassment and arrest of ISKCON chief Chinmayadas. “Our temples are being attacked, advocates supporting justice are targeted, and women face horrifying atrocities. If Hindus do not unite now, such violence may extend here,” he warned.
Swami Shivanand Ji Maharaj of Shri Dudhiya Baba Sanyas Ashram reminded the audience of India’s decisive intervention during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War to end oppression. “Despite India’s continued aid, fundamentalist forces in Bangladesh respond with betrayal. The Indian government must take strong measures to address this,” he emphasized.
Swami Narayan Chaitanya of Shri Mandir Mankameshwar expressed concern over threats to Sanatan Dharma. “Divisions within Hindu society only weaken us. It is imperative for Hindus to stand united against aggression,” he stated.
Saint Vikram Jeet Singh from Amritsar Gurudwara highlighted the principle of self-defense. “While India values non-violence, circumstances sometimes demand action. Keeping weapons for protection is not a crime. Guru Teg Bahadur Singh’s sacrifice against Mughal oppression should inspire us,” he said.
RSS leader Sneh Pal Singh echoed similar sentiments, urging people to prepare for potential challenges. “History teaches us that unity brings an end to oppression. We must act wisely and decisively,” he remarked.
Other notable speakers included Dal Chand from the RSS, Pandit Rajiv Mishra, and Guru Vivekananda Maharaj of the Bengali Matua sect, all of whom reinforced the call for unity and self-reliance.
