With just 37 days remaining for the 38th National Games, the Sports Department is gearing up with a plan to engage 7,000 volunteers to ensure the event’s success. Youth aged 18 and above are being encouraged to register online through a portal with around one lakh applications anticipated. The initiative aims to foster a spirit of service while providing participants with invaluable experience and opportunities in future events.

“Volunteers will play a critical role in various arrangements, including event management, parking coordination, guest assistance, and logistical support,” said a senior official from the Sports Department. “They will receive specialized training and certificates recognizing their contribution.”

All registrants will receive an e-certificate, while selected volunteers will also be awarded a National Games 2025 certificate. The selection process includes categorizing applicants into two groups: those with a sports background and general applicants.

The preparations for the games, set to take place in January, are progressing swiftly. Uttarakhand will host 32 Olympic-associated sports and four trial games across various districts. The Kumaon region’s Udham Singh Nagar district will host handball, volleyball, and cycling events, supported by newly developed infrastructure.

A multipurpose hall for handball and volleyball has been constructed at a cost of Rs 42 crore, while a velodrome for cycling has been built for over Rs 25 crore. These state-of-the-art facilities underline the state’s commitment to hosting large-scale sporting events.

The Kumaon division will host several key events. “The infrastructure and volunteer support will set a benchmark for future events in the state,” said DK Singh, general secretary of Uttarakhand Olympic Association. As the countdown continues, the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the 38th National Games are a grand success. The event not only promises to boost sportsmanship but also highlights Uttarakhand’s readiness to host national-level competitions, he added.
