Pantnagar, 13 September 2025. As part of the orientation program for newly admitted undergraduate students, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a technical lecture session in Gandhi Hall at the university. The program was attended by Mr. Saurabh Tiwari, Director and Chairman of BIS Dehradun branch, Joint Director Mr. Shyam Kumar, BIS Chair Professor Dr. S.B. Singh, Assistant Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Shweta Rai, Associate Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Chhaya Shukla, and faculty members from various departments of the university. Mentors of the 17 BIS Student Chapters established at Pantnagar University also participated.
Dr. S.B. Singh shared that under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Pantnagar University and BIS, 17 technical lecture sessions have been conducted so far. Twenty-nine students have been selected for BIS training internships, and 17 BIS Student Chapters have been formed at the university. Additionally, a BIS Corner and billboard have been set up in the university central library to provide students with information related to BIS standards. Mr. Saurabh Tiwari, Director and Chairman of BIS Dehradun branch, emphasized the importance of standards in various fields and provided detailed information on different aspects of standardization. He acquainted the students with the process of standardization and how they can participate in it. He also shared comparative data on the number of standards in India relative to other countries worldwide. Mr. Shyam Kumar, Joint Director of BIS and an alumnus of Pantnagar University, guided students on career opportunities as scientists in BIS. He also shared information about various BIS activities through videos.
