The First Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kashipur, sentenced three individuals, including the wife of the deceased, to life imprisonment for the murder of a court employee in 2019. A fine of Rs 50,000 has also been imposed on each convict. The decision came on Saturday.

The case dates back to January 15, 2019, when Kunda police recovered the body of Vinod Kumar near the Jwalpa petrol pump. Vinod, a resident of Sarvarkhera, worked as a fourth-class employee at the district court in Udham Singh Nagar district headquarter, Rudrapur. According to the postmortem report, he was killed by a sharp weapon.

The police investigation revealed that Vinod’s wife, Rajni, was in a relationship with Nafees alias Bablu, a barber from Andhra Pradesh. Rajni, Nafees, and a third accomplice conspired to murder Vinod, disposing of his body by the roadside to make it appear as an accident. A charge sheet was filed against the accused following their arrest on January 17, 2019.

During the trial, 15 witnesses supported the prosecution’s case. “The evidence presented left no room for doubt. The court has delivered justice,” said ADGC Ratan Singh Kamboj.

Apart from life imprisonment, the accused were sentenced to seven years and fined Rs 10,000 each for concealing evidence. All sentences will run concurrently.
