The Udham Singh Nagar district police have arrested three notorious drug smugglers and seized 1.058 kilograms of smack valued at over Rs 3 crore in the international market. The accused were identified as Sanu Ahmed, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Khurshid Hasan, and his wife Asma, both from Ali Khan Mohalla in Kashipur.
On Saturday evening, a team led by SHO Ravindra Singh Bisht from Pulbhatta Police Station intercepted a suspicious car near Shankar Farm Cut during routine vehicle checks. The vehicle, a car with registration number UP 14 CF 9528, was stopped, and after a thorough search, the police recovered 353 grams of smack from Sanu, 355 grams from Khurshid, and 350 grams from Asma.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the smack was sourced from Rifakat Ali, a known smuggler from Fatehganj West, Bareilly, and was being transported to Sitarganj. “The accused Khurshid and Asma are habitual offenders and have been jailed several times under the NDPS Act,” said District’s SSP Manikant Mishra. He added, “Further investigations are underway, and we are tracking more individuals involved in this drug racket.”
