The conspiracy to set up a fake liquor factory was hatched from Sangrur jail. After watching videos on internet media YouTube, he set up a factory to make cheap liquor at home. This was the first delivery of the accused. Methanol was mixed in the liquor due to which the liquor became poisonous.
ADGP Law and Order Gurinder Singh Dhillon, head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), said that the strings of the case are connected from Noida to Ludhiana. The accused purchased chemicals for making liquor from a company in Noida, while the materials for making liquor bottles and caps were purchased from Ludhiana. He told that all transactions for purchasing goods have been done online.
Dhillon said that three separate cases have been registered in this matter in three police stations of Sangrur district. Out of the ten accused, eight have been arrested. The main conspirators in the case are Harmanpreet Singh, resident of village Taipur (Patiala), Gurlal Singh Singh, resident of village Ubhawal Sangrur. Most of the accused in this case are history-sheeters
In this case, Manpreet Mani, resident of village Gujjaran, Dihba, supported both the main accused in selling liquor. The accused were selling the bottle whose price was between Rs 280 to Rs 300 for Rs 100 to Rs 130. On behalf of the accused, liquor was made with 300 liters of methyllone. Out of which 200 liters were recovered. Whereas 100 liter bottles were made and sold. ADGP said that the brand name of Haryana State Liquor Shahi was printed and used on the bottles for liquor.
The arrested accused have been identified as Chuhawan Soma Kaur, resident of Cheema, Rahul alias Sanju and Pradeep Singh alias Babbi, Gurlal Singh resident of village Ubhawal Sangrur, Harmanpreet Singh resident of village Taipur (Patiala), Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh resident of village Rogla and Manpreet Singh alias Mani and Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi, both residents of village Gujjaran, Dihba. Four cases are registered against Sukhwinder Singh, two against Manpreet, five against Gurlal and one against Harmanpreet
Excise Inspectors Sunam Prakash Singh, Mohan Singh Didba and Kashmira Singh Patar have been suspended in the case. SHO police station Shutrana Yashpal Sharma and Gurmeet Singh, in-charge police post Tharua (Patiala) have also been suspended. Apart from this, an ASI has also been suspended.
DGP Law and Order Gurvinder Singh said that 14 bodies of those who died have been cremated while six are yet to be cremated. The SIT chief said that new sections have been added to the cases that have been registered.
In this case, liquor samples have been sent to the forensic lab located in Kharar for technical investigation. Help of Excise Department officials is being taken in the matter. So that this can be investigated through technical means also.
