Vice President (VP) of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar who came to UJttarakhand on Thursday, visited the Pantnagar University. Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar visited the Pantnagar Museum located at G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar of district Udham Singh Nagar. VP Dhankhar made an exclusive visit to look into the one-of-its-kind museum of the country along with Governor, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh. The Museum contains memories and incidences of the evolution of the green revolution of the country along with hundreds of videos and other digital content showcasing the tireless efforts of the scientists of Pantnagar University since 1960.
VP took a keen interest in the interventions made by the agricultural scientists in bringing food sovereignty to the country. He looked into the phenomenal growth in food grain production from 50 million tonnes to more than 300 million tonnes in the last six decades. He also praised the undaunted efforts of the teachers and the scientists of the university in keeping the status of the university as a Centre of Excellence in agriculture, research, and education in the country.
It is to be mentioned that G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar established the Pantnagar Museum in 2021 under funding of the IDP- NAHEP project of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The museum was developed after a mammoth exercise of referring to more than 35000 pages of documents to carve out the content which has been beautifully placed in the time wall of the museum. The museum also contains the stories of the founder figures of the first generation like Norman E Borlaug, MS Swaminathan, YL Nene, DP Singh, HS Sandhu, HW Hannah, C Subramaniam, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, KAP Stevenson, WB Lambert, AN Mukhopadhyay and other stalwarts, who made significant contribution in upbringing of the legend of Green Revolution through nurturing the roots of the first agricultural university of the country, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar.
Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his happiness and satisfaction after visiting the legendary museum and said that Pantnagar is a seat of excellence that has contributed significantly to the upliftment of farmers and will continue to contribute through its spirit and excellence. SK Kashyap, Dean, College of Agriculture, PI, IDP-NAHEP, and Founder of the Museum demonstrated the story of the museum to VP Dhankhar and narrated the timeline of agricultural development of the country to the Vice-President emphasizing the priority of the future. Vice-President, Sh. Dhankhar met the Deans and Directors of the university for a while after the museum visit.
